Hi Reader, By the time you read this, you've hopefully had a chance to dig into the training guide and start dreaming about your own Salkantay Trek. Today, I wanted to share something a little different. After spending five days hiking to Machu Picchu, there were a few things that completely caught us off guard. 1. The hardest part wasn't what we expected. Before the trek, we were convinced altitude would be our biggest challenge. Don't get me wrong, the altitude is tough! But what surprised us most was how much the constant climbing and descending added up over five days. It's not just one big mountain. It's hours of hiking, day after day. That's exactly why we created the training guide around building endurance instead of just focusing on cardio. 2. Every day felt completely different. One of the coolest parts of the Salkantay Trek is how dramatically the scenery changes. We hiked through green valleys, stood beneath snow-covered peaks over 15,000 feet, crossed cloud forests, and finished in lush jungle before arriving at Machu Picchu. It honestly felt like hiking through several different countries in one trip. Looking back at our photos, it's hard to believe it all happened on the same trek! 3. It was even more rewarding than we imagined. We expected incredible scenery. What we didn't expect was how proud we'd feel reaching the end. There's something really special about earning your way to Machu Picchu. Every step makes arriving there that much more meaningful. It's one of those experiences that stays with you long after you've unpacked your backpack. If you're planning your trek and have a questions, just hit reply and we're happy to help! Whether you're wondering about training, packing, altitude, choosing a trekking company, or anything else, we'd love to help. In October, we did something crazy! We trekked for 5 days and over 40 miles from Cusco, Peru to Machu Picchu! If you've never been to Peru, or never heard of this, the Salkantay trek is a popular trekking route that goes from the Andes Mountains to the Amazon jungle and ends at Machu Picchu, with elevation up to 15,000 feet! And we may have been a little crazy, because before that we had never done a backpacking trip, never hiked 40 miles in 5 days and never hiked at over 10,000 feet. Read...
Hey Reader! If you guessed that we went back to French Polynesia in our last email, then you were correct!! We don't often go back to the same country multiple times, only because there are so many other great places to visit! But when I saw a flight deal to French Polynesia (which is the beautiful Bora Bora, Moorea, Tahiti and more) for $350, I had to jump on it! We absolutely loved French Polynesia the first time we visited! The water is to die for, the people are amazing and the food was...
